Research InterestsI am interested in the species-environment relationship at the interface of ecology and evolution. I integrate environmental informatics with genetics to test evolutionary relationships and ecological variation. A consistent theme includes extending these methods to inform conservation. More specifically, I explore the continuum of variation to tease apart the historical and contemporary forces responsible for generating and maintaining diversity. Recently, these efforts have focused on the montane-associated mammals of North America, a community that will require new strategies in the face of changing environmental conditions. Natural history museum collections, complemented with targeted fieldwork, are the foundations to my research.
